Proposal 2

Design Concept

The history of Malacca is largely the story of the city for which it is named, and the story of the city of Malacca begins with the fascinating and partly legendary tale of the Hindu prince Parameswara. The design concept of the graphic novel is to let people understand and know more about the origin of Malacca, as it is the oldest Malaysian city on the Malacca Straits, having flourished as a profitable entrepot throughout the Malacca Sultanate's era. We are using the chibi drawing style for our characters building in which making our characters into a tiny version of themselves to share the story of Malacca in the 14th century with a different way.

Visual Concept

Black is the translation of history, life, and artistic expression. Therefore, we are using black and white on the drawing of the graphic novel instead of applying bright colour to the drawing, so that readers are easier to relate and understand the history of Malacca. Other than that, we also applied layout, figure and text in the graphic novel so it can be read by using drawings and collage-style imagery to tell the story of how Parameswara establish Malacca. To let the graphic novel more interesting, we will include both internal and external dialogues of the characters as the juxtaposition of art and text is a style of representation, so the readers are able to comprehend what is represented in images as well as what is said in language.
